‘Set / Scene’ Group Exhibition Curated By Emma Elizabeth

Set / Scene brings together Australian designers in collaboration with curator and creative Emma Elizabeth to create a series of spatial vignettes in direct dialogue with artworks from the .M Contemporary collection. Each scene becomes a moment of contrast and connection — a meeting point where object, artwork and atmosphere fold into one another. Rather than treating design as supporting cast, the exhibition explores how design and art can coexist, challenge, and illuminate each other, transforming the gallery into a sequence of living, breathing scenes.

Designers include Marlo Lyda, Angus Easthope, Janos Korban & Stefanie Flaubert, Emma Elizabeth, Charles Wilson, Elliot Bastianon and ADesignStudio’s very own Alex Fitzpatrick. Together, their contributions shift the gallery from a conventional display into something more cinematic: curated “sets” where material, light, and composition shape how we read both artwork and object.

Alex Fitzpatrick’s Jagged Edge collection, presented through two light works — a table light and a floor light — are each meticulously assembled from hundreds of pieces of hand-cut glass. The fractured surface catches and scatters light, creating a shifting glow that changes as you move around it.

In the context of Set / Scene, these works do more than illuminate: they heighten the atmosphere of the vignette, echoing the exhibition’s core premise that art and design can sit in direct dialogue, each transforming the way the other is seen.

Set / Scene is showing at M Contemporary Gallery in Darlinghurst until February 28, 2026.
