When the stylish, British department store made its debut in Australia it found a distinguished home on Collins Street in Melbourne. Located on the basement level, the brief from Debenhams was to activate the celling with an immersive light installation to give the shop the feeling of an abundance of natural light.

ADesignStudio’s Light Garden was expressly conceived to create an ambient lighting that is seen in nature. The product is inherently designed to expand from one light into various patterns, making it well suited to the project’s expansive ceilings.

ADesignStudio’s designer Alex Fitzpatrick developed a concept for a custom Light Garden installation creating areas of density around the shops key experiences and flowing along the paths of egress. At various moments through the shopping experience the Light Garden grows down the walls and back to the ceiling.

The project included fabrication for an astonishing 400 units of the Light Garden. These were made up of two sizes and two profiles (W3, W3 flat, W5 and W5 flat). The majority of the project is made in white with a bronze accent running through.

Debenhams also wanted to create a more intimate experience for their in-store café where they used the Eon Sans Pendants over the tables in two sizes (S1 and S2).
