EON
Richard Kelly is a prolific lighting designer, whose work is considered the foundation of lighting design as a study and profession. His influential philosophy founded on three key principles for ideal lighting conditions – “focal glow”, “ambient luminescence” and “play of brilliance”.
The Eon Collection was designed to bring all three principles into a single light. The pendant was initially three physical parts which represented those principles. First, the metal piece which contains the light source as the “focal glow”. Second, the glazed orb as a diffuser to create “ambient luminescence”. Third, an interlocking triangular frame to add a “play of brilliance”.
As the product collection evolved, ADesignStudio worked through a series of tests with a local glass blower to find a distinctive finish for the handblown glass orb to distribute the light source into a diffused glow. The resulting crackle finish is unique to ADesignStudio. It not only has the ability to act as a diffuser, but also creates a natural dappled light refraction making “play of brilliance” from the orb itself.
The collection is made up of the original 3-part pendant, Eon, and a reduced 2-part pendant, Eon Sans. With the use of the crackle glass, both are able to embody Kelly’s principles into one lighting product.
The Eon is currently available in two sizes and the Eon Sans is available in four sizes. The light source is a concealed warm LED with dimmable control options.
