Carmen Grace Hamilton’s new Art Deco apartment

Fashion influencer Carmen Grace Hamilton’s new Art Deco apartment is a warm, serene and minimalist space, and features three lights designed by Alex Fitzpatrick for ADesignStudio for decorative and functional effect.

Carmen Grace Hamilton enlisted interior stylist and product designer Sarah Ellison to help decorate her apartment in Double Bay, Sydney, just a stone’s throw from the harbour. Meeting Carmen’s brief for simple, feminine and warm, Sarah selected creamy vanilla and caramel tones to complement the beautiful water view and laid-back beach lifestyle, and added layers of texture and tonal accents.

Our Eon Sans S3 Crackle Glass pendant hangs over the dining table, scattering light and shadow across the timber tabletop and vintage dining chairs. The pendant originated from Alex’s exploration of the interplay between light and materials. A hidden light source in the metal piece provides the focal glow, while the glazed orb creates ambient luminescence, and the crackle glass finish creates a natural dappled light refraction. “I try to capture light within a material without the light source being visible. It’s about how the light is cast and the effect it creates,” says Alex.

Two Crackle Glass W2 wall lights in alabaster are fixed to the wall above Sarah Ellison’s Muse modular sofa, and the crackled-glass effect is even more dramatic as the gently curving fitting pushes light back onto the wall in radiating reflections.

The small, oddly shaped living room made spatial planning critical, with lighting used to enhance the sense of space by illuminating otherwise dark corners. Our tall and slim Basel F1 floor lamp in white fits neatly in the corner next to sofa, where light is emitted from the back of the triangular shade, bouncing against the wall to brighten the corner.
