Alex expands his collections through constant exploration, guided by a deep fascination of both the technical qualities of a lighting fixture and the ambience of the diffused light. “I’m interested in how the light is cast and the effect it creates,” he says. His goal is to capture the light within the material of the shade without the light source being visible. To achieve this, rather than using an off-the-shelf product, Alex designs the LED engine himself in order to refine the diffusion of light and create the desired effect.
Through his skill and expertise, Alex is intent on truly changing the way we experience light, and it’s no surprise that ADesignStudio keeps all design processes in-house and builds each piece from the ground up. To properly conclude the full circle of his designs from inception to in-use, extra consideration and care is put into fitting the right LED chip to produce the desired lighting effect. A small or large LED chip is selected for its optimal colour temperature and controllability, and then the LED engine is designed for the size and light quality required for the specific application and environment.
The LED chip and engine are both assembled in Australia. Designing the light fitting and LED engine in unison, allows all components to be perfectly refined for the desired technical, aesthetic and ambient effect. ADesignStudio also works with local glass blowers and metalsmiths to develop and prototype the shades.
