ADesignStudio was invited by Stafford Architecture to create a custom light sculpture that unites function, precision and form to highlight the architectural grandeur of a stairwell space.
True to style, Stafford Architecture’s cutting-edge and contemporary aesthetic is echoed throughout this luxurious and expansive home set against Sydney’s Rose Bay. The sculptural and cylindrical feature staircase is a focal point of the interior and certainly worthy of celebration.

A skylight situated directly above the stairs informed the lighting design considerations from the outset. It was inspiration for a configuration that was wall-mounted rather than suspended from the ceiling, allowing it to float effortlessly within the circular stairwell.
Utilising our signature crackle glass EON as a starting point, ADesignStudio conceived custom light sculpture that would align with the home’s modernity and provide an ambient and personalised addition to the interior composition. Though the effect is dappled, each sphere contains approximately 3 watts of light. The glow presents powerfully and lends itself to the brilliant functionality of the design.
Acute precision and skill were required during the light’s installation to ensure the six-metre brass rod, made up of two three-metre bars, would come together smoothly, and that the mounted custom light sculpture would occupy the space seamlessly. Each glazed orb is fixed to the elongated rod and arranged randomly to illuminate different parts of the rounded stairwell. The result casting kaleidoscopic shadows and creating intimate moments of intrigue when moving up and down its steps.
