Mittagong Residence

The Mittagong Residence, located outside of Sydney, is a lovely interiors project by Judy Milne Interiors. Positioned in an expansive double height foyer and stairwell, the large light installation needed to add intrigue to the various view points from above and below while generating an abundance of light.

The series of three suspended ‘ring lights’ were expressly designed to pick up on the geometry of ADesignStudio’s LightGarden installation which is also positioned in the stair. Working with an angular vocabulary the idea of a ‘ring light’ became a faceted circle. The installation itself provides a play between the forms which fills the space. The three decagons are illuminated within the perimeter and also emit light through perforations in the surface.

ADesignStudio often works with solid metal to create natural quality finishes for their light fittings. In this instance, the scale required a light-weight fabrication. We worked with Axolotol’s Bronze finish which is made with real metal to give the lustre of bronze as well as the ability to develop a patina over time.

The installation is finished off with custom details like the ceiling rose which also uses the decagon shape.
